Frequently asked questions

Why does my MoMo fee sometimes differ from what the calculator shows?
MTN updates the fee schedule periodically and may run promotions (e.g. free sending below a threshold). We update this calculator as we see changes — if your confirmation SMS disagrees with our result, trust the SMS and let us know so we can fix it.
Is receiving money free?
Yes, receiving MoMo on MTN Rwanda is free for the recipient. Fees apply only to the sender and to withdrawals at an agent.
What about paying merchants?
MoMoPay (merchant payment) is typically free for the customer in Rwanda — the fee is borne by the merchant. This tool focuses on peer-to-peer sends, cross-network sends, and agent withdrawals.
