Frequently asked questions
- Why does my MoMo fee sometimes differ from what the calculator shows?
- MTN updates the fee schedule periodically and may run promotions (e.g. free sending below a threshold). We update this calculator as we see changes — if your confirmation SMS disagrees with our result, trust the SMS and let us know so we can fix it.
- Is receiving money free?
- Yes, receiving MoMo on MTN Rwanda is free for the recipient. Fees apply only to the sender and to withdrawals at an agent.
- What about paying merchants?
- MoMoPay (merchant payment) is typically free for the customer in Rwanda — the fee is borne by the merchant. This tool focuses on peer-to-peer sends, cross-network sends, and agent withdrawals.
