PAYE rates last verified: 24 April 2026. These figures follow the monthly PAYE brackets published by the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA). Always confirm with RRA before using this for filing, payroll or contract decisions.

Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) is Rwanda's monthly personal income tax, withheld by the employer and paid to the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA). It applies to salaries, wages, bonuses and most allowances paid to employees.

This calculator splits your monthly gross income across the PAYE brackets and shows how much tax falls into each, so you can see exactly why your tax comes out the way it does. The result excludes RSSB contributions — use the Rwanda Net Salary Calculator for a full gross-to-net breakdown.

How to use

  1. Enter your monthly gross income in RWF.
  2. Read the total PAYE owed, the effective tax rate, and the annualised PAYE total.
  3. Use the bracket-by-bracket table to see how much of your income falls into each RRA PAYE band (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%) and how much tax that bracket contributed.

Frequently asked questions

Who pays PAYE in Rwanda?
Employers withhold PAYE from salaries, wages, bonuses and most allowances paid to employees and submit it to RRA each month. Self-employed income is taxed under different rules.
What counts as taxable income for PAYE?
Gross salary, overtime, commissions, bonuses and most cash allowances. Specific exemptions (like reimbursed business expenses, pension contributions up to a limit, and some transport/housing allowances per RRA rules) can reduce the taxable base — consult RRA or a tax professional for edge cases.
Does this calculator include RSSB contributions?
No — it calculates PAYE only. Use the Rwanda Net Salary Calculator for a full gross-to-net breakdown that also deducts RSSB pension and maternity contributions.
